Al's French Frys was started by Al and Genevieve Rusterholz in the late 1940's. Their fabulous french frys quickly made Al's into a Burlington-area institution. Below you can see the original South Burlington building, which had an open front counter and no inside seating. The surrounding farmland is urban now, and the building has had several additions—but the frys are still the same, and it's no exaggeration to say that they are known nationwide. The trailer shown to the right, which was set up in Mallets Bay, has a 1947 license plate. It's the forerunner of Al's french fry stands at the Champlain Valley Fair and other events. Al's is the best fast food around. They use only the best meats for their burgers. As the name implies the real delight is their freshly cut and cooked french fries served, if your arteries can handle it, with a side of cheese dipping sauce.
